Google Partners with Matterport

Today, Matterport announced its integration into Google Street View at Google’s Street View Summit 2017. This is an important development for businesses looking to enhance their online reach and ability to draw in customers. The partnership will allow one-click publication of Matterport immersive 3D Spaces into Google Street View and, by extension, Google Search and Google Maps, too.

So why does this matter? You will get high quality image capture in a short amount of time with a lot of versatility. How’s that for efficiency? Through this new tool, photographers will be able to upload the captured content to an additional platform, as well as utilize Matterport’s ability to create and export photos, 3D file formats and VR experiences. Just capture once and then publish in multiple media formats and to multiple platforms increases productivity ten-fold.

More efficiency translates into better service for customers and lower costs per image capture compared to DSLR cameras and software stitching solutions. As a panoramic photographer and Matterport Service Partner, gone are the hours I spent stitching together disparate photospheres and linking constellations to publish to Google Street View. The Matterport process will be more efficient than the traditional panoramic photography workflow, stitching and moderating that many of us are accustomed to when creating a Google Street View virtual tour.

This partnership gives photographers the ability to capture multiple views through one application, rather than through numerous applications with different devices, streamlining the process at the end of the day and saving all of us time and money. One of the benefits of being a Matterport customer and supporting this publish capability is uploading to Google Street View’s ecosystem will be self-contained, start to finish. We won’t need to use other software to finish and publish to Google Street View, it will be more direct. Also, because a single Matterport scan generates multiple assets - including 2D HDR photos, 3D walkthroughs, video assets and others - I can give my customers an entire digital media marketing package with a single onsite scan.

Enabling Matterport customers with the ability to upload our immersive content to Google Street View will be highly beneficial to us. The access we will gain through Google’s platform will help us to enhance our visibility, promote our businesses and offerings, and attract different types of clients and industries that we can service in the future. This new capability will permit us to better market ourselves in less time and leave viewers with a more instant and immersive experience without them having to leave their home.

To learn more about the integration, read the official press release.

The tourism industry & why it needs 3D Virtual Tours.

The first time you go to New York City and walk into Time Square you get this sense of familiarity that is hard to understand because you are experiencing it for the first time - or are you?

Our emotional attachment to things, people & places comes from familiarity. Over the years you would have watched countless movies with NYC in it and that is where the feeling comes from.

Holiday destinations are exactly the same. If you want to make people feel at home, and book their holiday over other destinations - engage and generate an emotional attachment before they ever arrive. Images and lifestyle videos do a good job but walking through the lobby of the resort your thinking of staying in or visiting the restaurant where your going to propose to your loved one, makes a connection that photos or video just can't deliver.

It's human nature to want to explore, having 3D tours on your website will not only engage clients further but also allow them to visit different rooms, familiarise them self with the property and entertainment areas, and experience the space at their own leisure (sound like your holiday already?). This generates all types emotional responses to your property and intern will generate additional business.

With a 3D Virtual, your guest will feel like they are already on holiday before they even arrive. Check out the 3D Tours below for a resort in Hawaii or the Spa at Galgorm.

Where will you holiday next?

TRAVEL INDUSTRY GETTING ON BOARD WITH 3D VIRTUAL TOURS

I think everyone who has been on a luxury cruise liner has thought " I wonder what the best cabin on board looks like"? Well luxury brands like Princess Cruises and Starwood Hotels have started to incorporate 3D Virtual tours into their digital marketing.

It makes sense.. It's human nature to "aspire" and want to experience the best, even if it's only short lived. Big companies are now looking at ways to engage more customers and what better way to do this than to give them the next best thing to actually being there - a Virtual Tour, and the best part is...... it's completely free.

The idea seems to be working. Engagement online is up by 70% and "package upgrades" are also in massive growth with 4 x the average been seen across multiple sectors.

So what does this all mean. Well if your looking at a new marketing strategy, maybe start with a 3D Virtual tour to really engage your client base.  If your looking to take a cruise, well now you don't have to wonder how awesome the other cabins are.  And if you staying at home... well you can day dream a little longer and take a self guided tour, who knows you might get inspired to take a trip your self.

Check out the 3D Showcase below.. Enjoy the cruise.

airbnb to roll out 3D Virtual Tours

The immersive media technology company, which last year raised a hefty $30 million to further develop its 3D virtual tours, has already worked with a number of other companies in the hospitality industry to create 360 degree videos, including Princess Cruises, Viceroy Hotels, and Wyndham Vacation Rentals. The technology has been successful thus far in increasing customer confidence in rental locations and is becoming increasingly popular. And, as Oren J. Tversky, Matterport’s Vice President of Business Development, explains, the success of their technology within the real estate industry shows how easily the technology could be used on a larger scale, to capture even thousands of rental or apartment spaces.

The pilot, which was launched in July of 2016, was geared towards a number of popular and highly rated accommodation listings in the Sonoma, California area. What will set the selected Sonoma properties apart from Airbnb’s regular listings is an Instant Booking option, a 24 hour check-in, and even some local amenities from the host, which include such bonuses as complementary wine, luxury bath products, and a guidebook. Most excitingly, however, will be the introduction of virtual 3D models of the listed properties, which can be viewed through your browser or even through virtual reality devices like Google Cardboard and Oculus Rift.

3d virtual tour mansion

After renowned architect Richard Landry purchased a beach house in Malibu, CA, then spent five years and $6 million remodeling it, he wasn’t inclined to use plain old photos to sell the home.

After all, Landry is the “Architect to the Stars,” the man who built lavish estates for celebrities including Mark Wahlberg, Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady, and Wayne Gretzky.

A drone flyover and a few elegantly staged shots of his beachfront property simply wouldn’t suffice.

So, the architect turned to technology company Matterport to help market his luxurious home. The resulting immersive tour feels like you’re walking through the modern mansion. See for yourself…

The app also lists a number of off-market properties.

As the technology becomes more widely adopted, the number of properties available to view in VR through the portal will increase, the company said in a press statement.

Virtual property tours now a reality

Australian property seekers are now able to tour properties in virtual reality, with realestate.com.au today launching what it says is Australia’s first VR property app.

The app, available on Google’s mobile VR platform Daydream, will mean Australians can take a walk through their potential next home with users able to inspect properties in minutes rather than having to drive across town.

REA Group Chief Inventor Nigel Dalton said by 2020 most Australians will have VR headsets, and he expects real estate agents to embrace the new tech to create a brand new experience for property seekers.

3 Reasons a 360 VR Tour Will Sell Your Buyers

You step in through the door. A well-lit foyer welcomes you, and you smile. You’re home. As you stroll through the living room, eyeing the comfortable sofa that looks oh-so-tempting after a long day at the office, you smile. It’s good to be here. It just feels right. The kitchen is spotless, as it should be, and you imagine the dinner you’ll cook for the evening. You’ll have asparagus, sauteed in garlic, olive oil, and some Parmesan cheese, with some pan-seared scallops. What wine would pair nicely with this, you find yourself wondering.

Then you realize.

You haven’t even left your office! You’ve been touring the rooms of this amazing house without even standing up.
